The Assistants Bag/Kit – What is it and what’s in it?:
Hey there Reel Dealers : )

So we’re in the colourful continent of Africa, the cradle of humanity, shooting a promotional documentary for a very worthy charity in Ethiopia (info below). We thought it’d be a great opportunity to share some on location Tips & Tricks with you.

Elliot’s going to walk you through the super awesome assistants bag that we’ve bought out to Africa to help us with our filming. The assistants bag is the maintenance kit that allows you to keep your camera in running order – using things like dust off, lens cleaning fluids and tissues to keep your camera clean and dust free. It also carries important tools such as a white balance card, note pad & shooting script. Finally, for our trip out to Africa, we bought along a few extras just in case, such as: bungies, cable ties, first aid kit, scissors, marker pens etc. The kit will generally change for each job and will vary greatly on drama/documentary.

Here are a few links that might be useful if you’re looking to purchase the equipment for one of your own:

All the best & hope you enjoy.

@dochiaz Good question : ) Well it’s always good to have more than you
need, it is a particularly dusty environment but you could probably get by
with less. Our thinking is; it’s better to have them and not need them,
than need them and not have them! haha. Thanks for your comment : ) x

Jesus, guys…that`s a lot of tissues and cleaning stuff you`ve got in
there…are they all necessary because of the dusty (I presume) environment
or are they there for `just in case` situations? P.S. Good luck with your
    work 🙂

@DuskAndHerEmbrace13 the simple answer to that question is that we just put
ourselves out there a little : ) We approached this local charity and
offered our services for free, after several meetings it was decided that
they would pay for us to get out to Africa to shoot the film for them. If
you’re interested in doing something similar, just approach a charity and
see what they say – ideally have something to show them so they know what
    you can do : ) x
