Highlights from Rudi Dundas’ Opening Reception: The Face of Water

In this highlight video from her opening photography reception, photographer Rudi Dundas shares the stage with two partners who help develop and execute clean water programs around the world. Lisa Nash, Executive Director of Blue Planet Network, and Sabore Ole Oyie, a member of the Blue Planet Network, share their stories about why clean water solutions matter for the billions whose lives are impacted by water insecurity.

“The Face of Water” will be on view at the World Affairs Council from February 3 – April 30, 2015.

Drinking water is life’s most basic need, yet nearly a billion people on our planet do not have access to it. For the past five years, Rudi Dundas has traveled to over 15 countries taking portraits of people affected by the lack of clean drinking water. This has included photographing the Samburu people of northern Kenya and the Maasai Mara of southern Kenya and of Ethiopia’s Sidamo and Omo River Valley regions.

While documenting water issues for NGO’s and other organizations, she has sat with people to hear their problems and address their solutions in the universal language of laughter, empathy and photography. The resulting portraits show the humanity and grace of people living under difficult situations and remind those of us who are living in more privileged circumstances just how precious the resources are that we often take for granted.

The nobility and grace in the faces of the people she meets speaks to the complexity and beauty of life. Dundas hopes to bring awareness and connection to our world’s water problems through the eyes of those affected.
